DIY Screening Guide
DIY Screening Guide
Bring the Media That Matters Film Festival to Your Community!
Arts Engine works year-round to bring our unique collection of inspiring films to classrooms, living rooms and community halls across the world. Now you can do the same! Bring these festival films to your community and work with us to spark debate and action on the important issues of the day.
It’s easy!
Step 1: PROGRAM
First watch the films online, then select what you want to show on the big(ger) screen. You can either order the annual collection, or order a special curated DVD. Special curated DVDs are $75 per disc for up to 12 films + a minimum of $5 shipping and handling (International rates apply). Requests must be made four weeks before the screening/event date.
Performance rights are included, but talk to us first if you are considering charging admission. If you need programming assistance we are here to help you!
Step 2: LOCATION
Whether for an intimate screening or a large-scale entertainment event, it can be pretty annoying if you find out only minutes before screening that you are missing a wire, ran out of chairs, have no wheelchair access or can’t see the screen properly. Select a screening location that’s suitable for both the event and the audience.
Step 3: SPREAD THE WORD
Emails, blogs, announcements, flyers - get the important information to your target audience. For larger public events, download a customizable flyer and press release, and post the details on MediaRights so we can help promote your event!
Step 4: GET CREATIVE
Get people involved! Media That Matters is all about action, so download action guides and programs for your audience. Spark a discussion! Invite local activists or community organizations to attend the screening, speak about ways in which the audience can be involved in the issues on a local or national level. You could even invite Media That Matters filmmakers or Arts Engine staff to present! Use our discussion guide for ideas on activities, and most importantly - feel free to think outside the box and have fun with it!
Step 5: REPORT BACK
How did it go? Do you have any success stories or generate ideas on how to improve for your next screening? Provide evaluation forms to your audience that they can fill out after the screening. Then send us the information along with some photos and together we can track the success and impact of our festival films!
Thanks in advance for bringing Media That Matters to your community.
Good luck!
