Women Take Over Television Station in Oaxaca

The San Francisco Gate reports that On August 2 2006, 500 women in Oaxaca, Mexico tool over the local, state-run television station and broadcast a homemade video Wednesday that showed police kicking protesters out of Oaxaca's main square last month. This protest is the latest in a series of clashes by demonstrators accusing Gov. Ulises Ruiz of rigging his 2004 election victory and violently repressing opposition groups. These 500 women decided that the revolution will be televised and their actions reminiscent of festival films where strong women are coming together and organizing the community to spur social change.
