The US is Wasting Away

Have you seen Neglected Sky, Young Agrarians and World On Fire? These films on sustainability and the environment address the need for drastic changes in the way we interact with the environment. A recent article "The Hidden Life of Garbage" published on AlterNet highlights another environmental issue: garbage. The United States is the number one producer of garbage on the planet. Only 5 percent of the global population lives here but we generate 30 percent of the world's trash. The average American throws away a staggering 4.5 pounds of garbage daily and our environment is paying the price. Heather Rogers, author of a new book Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage sits down with AlterNet for interview about her new book and the ever-increasing 'waste stream' and the people and corporations that feed it. Read the entire internview.
