In The Morning Screens at the United Nations
On June 1, In The Morning will be screening at the United Nations before NYC members of UNIFEM (United Nation Development Fund for Women), and I will be speaking after the screening with Congressman Jerry Nadler (NY) and S.K.Guha, Program Specialist of UNIFEM. I hope that through the speeches of both Congressman Nadler and S.K.Guha, we might all come away with a deeper understanding of why this practice exists today. It is not enough to simpy berate the practice of honor killings; we must look deeply into why the practice has existed for thousands of years, so that we can understand how it might be possible to handle and quell its existence in our modern world. I do believe that through the support of Congressman Nadler, who is in my belief the number one goverment official most dedicated to this cause, as well as that of S.K.Guha and UNIFEM, we are already one step closer to changing the laws surrounding honor killings, and this will bring us two steps closer to changing minds as well. -Danielle Lurie Writer/Director In The MorningPublished on May 9, 2006
