Do You KNOW the Facts About Aids?
Have you seen I Promise Africa and iThemba? These two short films tackle the Aids epidemic in Africa and are calls to action for education and support. A new campaign has just begun to bring attention to the crisis in the United States.
On Thursday April 28th, hundreds of people gathered in Manhattan's Herald Square for the launch of a new HIV/Aids awareness campaign: I Know. And the point of the campaign is that we don't know nearly enough. As evidence suggests that rates of new infections are on the rise, our awareness, attention and action are conversely diminishing.
Representative of a virus itself, the campaign spread quietly with logos stickered throughout the city and small gold coins passed out to pedestrians. For weeks, the IKnow.tv URL hosted streaming videos of New Yorkers ambiguously talking about what they did or did not know- HIV/Aids was never mentioned, never hinted at. On April 29th, the site took its permanent shape as an extraordinary resource on the the facts of HIV/AIDS. I Know is about making these facts common knowledge and bringing them into public, everyday discourse.
