6/20: THE NEXT WAVE (MTM9) and HOME: THE GREAT MIGRATION OF THE 21st CENTURY at Harlem Stage

Join Arts Engine and Harlem Stage on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 for a screening of the Media That Matters short film, THE NEXT WAVE. Directed by Jennifer Redsearn and Tim Metzger, THE NEXT WAVE follows the struggle of the world‰Ûªs first climate change refugees, the Carteret Islanders; the film won the Jury Award at Media That Matters 9.

The program will also include the Black Documentary Collective short film, A SHADOW FROM THE LYNCHING TREE, directed by Carvin Eison, which revisits a turbulent chapter in American history by juxtaposing the music of the THE ROOTS with provocative images of our violent racial past.

Both short films will precede the feature film, HOME: THE GREAT MIGRATION OF THE 21ST CENTURY. For five years filmmaker Naimah Fuller examined the staggering number of blacks leaving major cities and relocating to the south. In his film Home: The Great Migration of the 21st Century, Naimah studied the ‰ÛÏpush-pull‰Û factors of this new phenomenon by exploring historical and current conditions facing blacks in the north and the south.
