November 15: Media That Matters Screening at Facing Race Conference in Oakland, CA

The Applied Research Center will be hosting a national conference entitled Facing Race, which will tackle issues of racial justice in 21st century America. Scholars and activists from across the country will convene to discuss ways in which we can, as a nation, "Define Justice and Make Change" across color lines.

Topics set for discussion include Post-Election Reflections, Race and the Global Economy, Multiracial Organizing, and Challenging Colorblindness. The conference schedule will feature a series of speakers, panel discussions, workshops, and film screenings. Arts Engine and the Media that Matters Festival has compiled a group of films from past festivals that deal with race and will be included as part of the conference program.

The Media That Matters films from the eighth annual collection include:
Perversion of Justice, Something's Moving, A Loud Color, African Underground: Hip-Hop in Senegal, and America for Dummies.

Selections from previous festivals include Sovereign Nation, Rights on the Line, and Still Standing.

The conference runs from November 13-15 at the Oakland Marriott City Center.
