March 24: Student Union Memorial Center, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ; 12:00PM

University of Arizona students screened films from the Media That Matters Film Festival on March 24th at the Student Union Memorial Center. The organizers of the screening wanted to host a program of short films helping to illuminate different aspects of womanhood and ethnicity, as well as "bringing the principle of democracy into people's homes," says Jennifer Hoefle. The screening consisted of 3 films from the sixth and seventh annual collections: Slip of The Tongue, A Girl Like Me and I'm Not A Boy

The screenings, which focused on social justice with particular attention paid to women's issues, brought together young advocates, along with faculty members to view and discuss the films at hand. Each of the chosen films seek to illuminate a different interpretation and experience of what it means to be a woman in the world today. The compilation of films also examines ways in which women of different ethnic background's have such drastically different experiences, shaped both by media input, as well as longstanding cultural stereotypes. Through the discussions, the people who viewed the films sought to find ways to viably move towards a solution to these issues.
