The NAMAC Conference, Taking LIberties: Freedom, Creativity and Risk in the Media Arts, is taking place September 28th to October 2nd in Philadelphia.
Independent filmmakers, media arts center staff, programmers, broadcasters, new technologists, archivists, educators, youth media makers and leaders, telecommunications experts, community producers, new media artists, cultural critics, activists, policy makers, and media funders will assemble for 5 days to network with peers and exchange ideas, discover new opportunities using digital technologies and discuss, debate and showcase creative expression.
On Thursday, September 29, from 4:00-5:30 pm, Shira Golding, Director of Education and Outreach at Arts Engine, will speak on the panel "Freedom of Choice: Curating for Niche Audiences." Shira will speak about the curatorial process involved in producing the Media That Matters Film Festival as well as provide an overview of how the MediaRights website can be used as a tool by independent filmmakers to reach target audiences. The panel will be moderated by Steve Jenkins of Frameline. Other panelists include Ariella Ben-Dov of MadCat Women’s International Festival, Filmon Mebrahtu of Reel Voices and Sheryl Mosley of Walker Arts Center.
