From Bob Dylan to the Clash to Public Enemy, music has spoken to the hearts and the passions of every generation. It has helped us stand up for what is right and protest what was wrong. It has helped tear down systems of injustice and walls tyranny. That tradition continues today, with U2, Green Day, the Roots, and other bands that speak truth to power.

But in today's increasingly interdependent world, music is only the beginning, not the end. The current generation of activists has taken advantage of the convergence of digital technology and the internet to push for change in radically new ways. With the help of Arts Engine and the Media Matters Film Festival, today's artist-activists will make sure that the next revolution definitely will be televised — and blogged, mashed up, webcast, and podcast. I can't wait to see what comes next.

I traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico last month for the Citizens For Global Solutions annual Conference. Amidst the packed conference schedule was the first ever Global Solutions film festival. We screened 3 Media That Matters shorts films alongside Paul Cowan's The Peacekeepers.
