Building A Whiter New Orleans

Have you seen System Failure? This devasting look at the California Youth Authority calls attention to the deep racism of the justice system. in the wake of hurricane Katrina and rebuilding New Orleans, the most affluent members of the community have an enormous advantage to begin rebuilding their lives.

Naomi Klein's most recent article in the The Nation, explores how the trends in rebuildig New Orleans are already displaying signs of a demographic shift where the people returning are mostly white. Further, there is an opportunity to resettle the evacuees in "mixed income" housing: rahter than rebuilding ghettoes, rich and poor living side by side.
