What Causes Classroom Massacres?

Posted on March 22, 2005

Have you seen STORM from the third annual Media That Matters Film Festival? It is the story of Billy who cannot find allies in school as he attempts to stave off the onslaught of classroom abuse.

On Monday March 21, a high school student in Bemidji, MN went on a shooting rampage killing 5 classmates, a teacher and a securuty guard after shooting his grandparents in their home. Not since the Columbine massacre in 1999 has their been a high school killing this devastating. The details are still being pieced together and the suspect committed suicide after exchanging gunfire with the police. There is speculation as to what could have triggered this type of violence and the questions remain: was the suspect a bully or being bullied? How did he obtain the gun? How can these types of incidences be averted?
