Public Interest Obligation Toolkit

Posted on July 26, 2004

Have you checked out the Just Media Project? Looking for more ways to take action for media reform? Common Cause/NY and Media Channel have a new resource for you:

Do our local broadcasters do an outstanding job promoting political discourse during the campaign season? Unfortunately, no.

Want to help change that? Then please join Common Cause/NY and Media Channel for the release of the Public Interest Obligation Tool kit on Wednesday, August 4th! Join me and Tim Karr of Media Channel to discuss the kit and how to change public interest obligation standards.

Common Cause, as part of the Public Interest, Public Airwaves Coalition, has developed a took kit that you can use to encourage your local broadcasters to provide better local coverage and do a better job fulfilling their public service obligations. This toolkit contains a variety of information on the issue, as well as sample press releases, letter to the editor, and the Public Interest, Public Airwaves Pledge that we are asking broadcasters to sign. This pledge demonstrates the commitment of local broadcasters to our democracy - a democracy that thrives only when people are educated and knowledgeable about critical public issues.

When: Wednesday, August 4th
Where: Common Cause/NY; 155 Avenue of the Americas, 4th Floor, NYC (C/E
Spring Street or 1/9 to Houston)
Time: 5:30-6:30 pm

Please RSVP by sending an email to Joanna Erenberg, Event Coordinator & Special Projects Director, Common Cause/NY or by calling 212-691-6421 by Friday, July 30th.
