A special congratulations to Free Range Graphics, whose animation The Meatrix was also the winner of the SXSW Web Award for the Best Classic Site.

If you haven't watched the festival, now is the time! Now is also the time to tell us what you think, and to host your own screening!

More about SXSW and the awards from the SXSW site:

The SXSW INTERACTIVE FESTIVAL brings together uber-geeks and digital innovators from around the world for four days of keynote speeches, Trade Show, panels, parties and assorted evening fun. Now in its twelfth year, this is the event where the web's most creative minds share their ideas about how interactive technology will shape our future. The 12th annual SXSW Interactive Festival is taking place March 11 - 15, 2005.

The 2005 SXSW Web Awards continues to focus on digitial innovators who push the boundaries of creativity in the online world. The Awards are judged in two separate rounds. After all entries are received, the first round of judging selects a group of five finalists in each of the categories. The second round of judging picks the top site from each of these groups of finalists.

Websites are judged on the following five criteria: visual design, functionality, interactivity, content and creativity. Entries are given a score of between 1 and 10 in each of these criteria and the finalist sites are those that achieve the highest cumulative score. As the panel of judges are comprised of individuals from around the country and across the world, all judging is accomplished via a special, online interface.
