Freedom of Information
Posted on September 16, 2004
In Pedro Carvajal's POPaganda, artist Ron English reclaims public billboards with his powerful subvertisements, insisting that "Corporations don't deserve free speech, people deserve free speech."
Radical librarian Jessamyn West feels just as strongly about the sanctity of free speech and the importance of freedom of information. While Ron protects the urban landscape, West is focused on the book stacks and computer screens, which she feels are threatened by FBI surveillance under the Patriot Act. West has conjured up her own line of adbusters, a series of biting signs that are being put up in Vermont libraries to alert visitors. Follow Jessamyn's lead and fight to protect freedom of information!
