Festival Filmmaker Takes on the RNC!

Have you seen iThemba? One of its filmmakers, Keefe Murran is now shooting a documentary on the weeks leading up to and culminating in the Republican Nataional Convention. The film titled August in the Empire State uses the perspectivs of four New Yorkers to capture this highly charged, historic event. As the city prepares for the convention, The Village Voice profiled Keefe and his co-producer Gabriel Rhodes as they await for the film and convention to unfurl.

The thousands of delegates, journalists, and protesters descending upon midtown for the Republican National Convention the week of August 30 should plan to look their best: Some of them might very well end up appearing at a theater near you. In addition to the countless mainstream news outlets covering the event, a hearty contingent of independent documentarians are preparing to roll cameras when the GOP and its concomitant multitude of dissenters hit the town. While the Republicans prepare to use Madison Square Garden as their carefully controlled television studio, indie filmmakers plan to catch the real stories outside on the streets.
