These six minutes say so much. I'm really looking forward to the feature. I have collaborated with the people at Welfare Rights in Detroit on this issue of water rights. In a recent interview with Maureen Taylor, she said "Our position is that water is a human right like oxygen is a human right. Nobody has the right to stand up and tell another person that he can't have water because he can't afford to pay for it. Again, I'll go back to my favorite biblical quote: "May they die and burn in hell" if they say that. Or maybe, they don't necessarily have to die, just burn! That is not the kind of attitude that is not appropriate for people that live in this state, in this country. For people that live in this world. Humanitarians don't take that position--that because you are poor you can't have water, so I'm quite laid back on this particular issue and by the time I share my point of view and my destination points for those individuals who think (the wrong way) about this and I tell them as aggressively as I can, usually they don't say that to me again--maybe they say it behind my back, but very few people have the nerve to stand up and tell Welfare Rights Organization those kinds of things. No, no, if you say that to us, we're going to draw a line in the sand and make you jump over it." She's a true leader on this issue and she and her poeple down there are doing incredibly difficult, but important work.

my college tuition, for one semester, is $500 less than that water bill. that makes no sense. none. how does a city let something like this happen?

Bravo! an excellent film. When the sister mentioned that her son had died, my heart dropped. I did not see that coming. The issues presented in this film and other important issues are affecting every single black community across the nation. This film also establishes that there is a warrior in each of us even without having Malcolm or Martin with us.
